âEach company has slightly different requirements in terms of the systems and technologies they have in their organization. We were also able to adapt the program to the needs of the company. We are developing this program to meet their specific business-level needs.
While receiving free on-site training and industry-specific WPCC courses, program participants also receive a high salary, Furse said. Participants will also receive a raise every time they complete a quarter of the program. The more they learn, the more they earn, Furse said.
Furse and her WPCC team also plan to expand the program to local high school students. He believes that young people are the future of this field and that they play an important role in the success of the industry.
Furse explained that his team is in the process of creating a pre-apprenticeship program for high school students that is expected to begin in the summer of 2022.
As someone who started out without knowing what he wanted to do with a living and then worked in the industry for over 35 years, Furse understands why the field of industry seems intimidating to a lot of people. He wants students to realize that there are more opportunities than ever to create lasting and meaningful careers in the industry.
âI think it’s really important to start with every company that invests in this program and is committed to becoming a partner,â said Furse. âIn every company, there are strengths in these young people who want to know: ‘Okay, what do I have to do to move forward?’ â¦ They will have the opportunity to try out the field of industry, see what it looks like and determine up front, âDo I want to do this for my career? “
