The Kansas Department of Transportation announces a Request for Proposals (RFP) to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along the state’s busiest highways.
This tender is the next step towards administering approximately $ 2 million of the state’s allocation of Volkswagen Mitigation Trust funds dedicated to the installation of DC Fast Charging Stations (DCFCs). KDOT has currently identified 12 priority locations to improve public access to charging stations every 50 miles along major corridors.
Priority locations for EV DCFC charging stations (within five miles of the hallway exit):
â¢ I-70 – Oakley / Grainfield / Grinnell area
â¢ I-70 – WaKeeney
â¢ I-70 – Russell
â¢ I-70 – exit Ellsworth / US 156
â¢ I-70 – Abilene to Junction City area
â¢ I-70 – Manhattan to the Paxico area
â¢ I-35 – Ottawa
â¢ I-35 – Emporia
â¢ I-35 – Cassoday to Matfield-Green area
â¢ I-35 – Belle Plaine – Wellington district
â¢ I-135 – Newton / North Newton
â¢ United States 81 – Concordia
All interested parties can attend a virtual pre-proposal call from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2. A confirmation email will provide the details to join the meeting.
The KDOT issued a Request for Information (RFI) in September for comments and input to help develop this RFP and the program’s criteria for awarding funds. The responses resulted in the following key changes:
â¢ Candidates who answer this RFP are not required to have answered the RFI.
â¢ Carrying capacity requirements have decreased with scaled scoring criteria.
â¢ The application deadline is extended until December 15th.
