The Meridian Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility, Idaho (WWRRF) recently selected Centrisys / CNP’s MagPrex â„¢ sequestration process with an option to extend it to further struvite harvesting.

Meridian evaluated possible nutrient management processes that would allow it to meet the next lower nutrient effluent limits, concluding that biological phosphorus removal was its best choice. The decision was based on process efficiency, lower life cycle costs, and chemical reduction goals for their treatment process.

The city has a compliance schedule to meet a limit of 8.5 lb / d TP, with a future maximum monthly flow rate projected at a concentration of 0.07 mg / L total P. With this newly announced partnership, the product MagPrex of Centrisys will begin to alleviate the plant’s high phosphorus levels

Biological removal of phosphorus directs most of the phosphorus into the solids stream as orthophosphate for further processing. By concentrating the phosphorus in the solids stream, the city will permanently remove a significant portion of the phosphorus from the entire treatment process and prevent recycling within the plant.

“After an evaluation of MagPrex by the city engineers, Mountain Water Works and Carollo, the city council decided to award the order to the Centrisys / CNP MagPrex system,” said Gerhard Forstner, president of CNP and expert in waste recovery. nutrients. “We look forward to facilitating the installation and helping the Town of Meridian achieve its goals. “

Meridian’s WWRRF operates and maintains a centralized wastewater treatment facility and over 400 miles of sewer lines throughout the city. The main objective of the city’s wastewater division is the protection of the water supply and the treatment of the wastewater that flows into the facility to protect the health of its citizens.

The product will significantly improve the effectiveness of treatment, including:

  • Reduction of polymer consumption by up to 30 percent
  • Reduction of disposal costs by up to 20%
  • Phosphate recycling charges reduced by up to 90 percent
  • Maintenance costs reduced by up to 50 percent
  • Increase in fertilizer income by up to 20 percent
  • No sodium hydroxide required for pH change

By using the system, operators can prevent crystallization in their biosolids train and reduce phosphate recycling by up to 90%. The planned schedule for the Meridian WWRRF start-up data will begin in summer 2022.
