Here are the highlights of what’s going on around (or related to) our city this weekend until the next one. (Note: Thanks to the June 16 holiday, next weekend will be long.)

Saturday, June 11, 2022

  • Trottier Big Band on the radio (8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) @ 90.5 WICN: Saturday swing session hosted by Howard Caplan will feature the college jazz band.
  • Learn to listen with LOVE (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) @ South Union Building, 21 Highland St: Workshop hosted by Southborough Youth & Family Services on the art of communication in relationships. They will address some of the challenges and review the essentials of successful communication. Registration required. For more details, see the related post.
  • Summer book sale (10am – 3pm) @ Southborough Library: The Friends of Southborough Library’s annual June sale selling books of all kinds, as well as DVDs and CDs. A free book for each child. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Autism Center Open Day (11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) @ Key Autism Service, 333 Turnpike Rd: Families are invited to enjoy free ice cream, face painting, and balloon twists. This is your chance to see the new autism treatment center in Southborough and ask questions. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Barbecue of the Pilgrims’ Church (5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.) @ Pilgrim Church parking lot, 15 Common St.: Purchase tickets in advance to enjoy dinner, lawn games and music. For more details, see the dedicated post.

  • Trail Art Installation Day (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) @ Beals Preserve: 15 artists will install their works as part of Art on the Trails’ 6th Annual Exhibition. For more details, see the dedicated post.

  • Walking group for seniors (8:30 a.m.) @ Trottier Middle School Outdoor Track: Free walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center, see bulletin. Walkers usually walk for an hour, but go on for as long as you want. The location is a loop so feel free to join late.
  • Stretch Break classes for seniors (10:15 a.m.) @ Southborough Senior Center: For weekly class details, see the newsletter.
  • Preschool story time (10.30am – 11.15am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Join Miss Kim for stories and crafts based on a weekly theme. No registration required.
  • Youth Writing Club (3:30-4:30 p.m.) @ zoom: Southborough Library is hosting this virtual creative writing club for ages 10-18. Zoom sessions are a fun and challenging space to get creative and develop skills with peers. For more details, see the dedicated post.

Bring questions about e-books and e-resources. This is a drop event; no registration necessary. Sessions are limited to a maximum of 1 hour.
  • Poetry workshop (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.) @ Southborough Library: Bi-monthly meeting open to all. Bring your original poetry to share for constructive feedback. For more details, see the library’s website.

  • Trottier “Jazz Evening” (7:00 p.m.) @ Trottier Middle School: An evening of jazz featuring the Trottier Big Band and alumnus, saxophonist Connor Jenks. (Donations will be accepted to supplement transportation costs and purchase new equipment.)

  • Beginnings of young STEM scientists (10:30am – 11:30am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: A free in-person series for children aged 3-6 to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts through hands-on activities, story time and experiments simple. The program through the Southborough Library is sponsored by the YMCA Family and Community Partnership.
  • Food Truck Festival (3:30pm – 7:00pm) @ St. Mark’s Meadow (corner of Routes 85 and 30): A series of community events organized by the Rotary Club of Southborough. This is the last session of this spring. It will include trucks from: Travlin’ Bones, Birds Nest, DogFather, Bubbes Blintzes and Trombetta’s Ice Cream. For more details, see the dedicated articles.

  • How to be an ally (6:30 p.m.) @ 21 Highland Street: “How to Be a Sensitive and Informed LGBTQ+ Ally” training is offered by Southborough Youth and Family Services in recognition of “Pride Month.” The program is run by GSA Link’s. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • genealogy club (7:00 – 8:30 p.m.) @ Southborough Library, Main Floor: This is an informal group meeting where you can learn and share tips about resources for family history research. Group meetings are free and open to the public. Bring your laptop, log on to Ancestry.com at the library, and join us.

  • dull men’s club (10:00 a.m.) @ zoom: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • farewell 5th year (3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) @ Neary School: Grade 5 students will celebrate their graduation from Neary Elementary with a DJ, bouncy houses, lawn games, dunk tank, Alltown Fresh pizza oven truck and Uhlman ice cream. All of this will be provided by Neary SOS.
  • Banquet Trottier 8th grade (7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.) @ Trottier Middle School: The celebration for students about to graduate from K-8 schools in Southborough. Refreshments, DJ, dancing, photos and fun. (Pre-registration and pre-payment were required.)

  • Summer Seed Exchange (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Library Lawn: Ready to plant your seeds now that the weather is nicer outside? Stop by the Southborough Library outside to pick up a gardening kit and a seedling of tomato plants (while supplies last). Each kit contains seed packets in one of three themes: (1) Grow Your Own Salad, (2) Groove On Squash, or (3) Grow Your Own Herb Garden. Supplies will be limited, so be sure to stop by this special Saturday event!
